Horri-Bull

What a week its been for the Chicago Bulls (17-9) ahead of this game against the dreaded Heat (15-11).

They went into the Cavs game shorthanded because of Covid Protocols and after the game it was announced that Derrick Jones Jr had also entered it but the announcements didn't end there. Just as the Bulls thought they were getting a break with the return of Alex Caruso, and having brought in Alfonso McKinnie and Stanley Johnson on the hardship exemption, a few hours before tip it was announced that Ayo Dosunmu and Stanley Johnson have entered Protocols making it 7 players (Coby White due out). But they weren't the only ones dealing with losses as the Heat were also playing with Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Markieff Morris and Caleb Martin out.

Onto the game itself and Troy Brown Jr got the start with Alex Caruso for the Bulls who only had 11 players fit to play.

1ST HALF

A pretty poor start from the Bulls in the paint that see's them down early at 10-6 after 4:30 with the only points coming from beyond the 3 point line and Lonzo Ball. The quarter finishes with Bulls down 39-25. It doesn't get any easier as the Heat drop NINE 3s in the quarter. They had their franchise record of 22 3s on Wednesday against the Bucks and it seemed like they were trying to break that tonight. The Bulls aren't backing down and are actually 6-12 on 3s after the 1st.

Into the 2nd and after 5:15 the Bulls had closed to within 5, but a timeout kills the momentum and after 2 minutes they find themselves down 15. As we get to half time the score is BULLS 52 - 65 HEAT.

(Zach being Zach)

HALFTIME STATS

  • LaVine 21 points; 8-12 FGs

  • Ball 12 pts, 3 assists

  • Vucevic 1-5 FGs

  • Robinson 18 pts

  • Dedmon 14 pts, 7 rebs

  • Lowry 9 pts, 12 assists

  • Heat 13-23 from 3

  • Bulls 11 -21 from 3

  • Vucevic struggling to find his shot again whilst the Bulls struggle on the defensive end.

2ND HALF

The 3rd quarter just goes the same as the 1st half as the Heat start dropping 3s for fun now at 15. The third quarter ends with the Bulls down 70 - 86. The only bright spot seems to be Zach LaVine with 28 points through 3.

Into the 4th and it seems like they're doing damage control more than anything but the Bulls can't even do that because things just get worse.

Billy Donovan finally empties the bench with 4 minutes left and the game ends with the Bulls losing to the Heat, again, 92 - 118.

Final Takeaway

Another tough game for the Bulls with being so shorthanded, a game many will say should have been postponed. Show these guys some mercy.

Zach LaVine did all he could with another 30+ point game going 7-11 from the 3 point line but eyes seemed to be on Nikola Vucevic who once again was struggling. Another game where they needed him to be big and back to his AllStar level but he just wasn't there tonight finishing 3-15 FGs and although we saw Alex Caruso back, he's clearly not himself. It also looks as though Troy Brown Jr may be injured which just adds to the list of players unable to play. The game itself wasn't all bad as it saw the Bulls hit 17 three's overall but the Heat also not missing and hitting 19.

What didn't help was the 14 turnovers from the Bulls which led to way too many points from the Heat as well as another pretty bad night from the line for the Bulls as they only made 13-20. But you can't read too much into things with this current Bulls situation. They now sit 17-10 and will face the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night, which they'll be hoping to have some bodies back by that time. Bulls now only play twice in 7 days and I'm sure they're happy about that.
