Bulls Survive 4th Quarter Thunder Storm

Pre Game

The Chicago Bulls (28-17) are in OKC to take on the Thunder (14-32) as they look to bounce back from their embarrassing defeat in Orlando last night. ZACH LAVINE IS BACK and gets the start as well as Javonte Green, but they decide to rest DeMar DeRozan for this game. Nikola Vucevic is also playing despite being questionable with a knee injury.

1ST HALF

1st Quarter - Bulls struggle to stop OKC from 3 but their own offence certainly looks better than it has. In particular Ayo Dosunmu getting to double figures within 8 minutes and LaVine and Green's return certainly helped bring back some energy into this team. The Bulls end the quarter with the lead at 35-27.

Bulls

  • Ayo Dosunmu: 10 pts (4-4 FG), 2 ast

  • Zach Lavine: 7 pts, 3 ast, 2 stl

  • 5/11 from 3

OKC

  • SGA 9pts

  • Giddey 5pts

  • 4/8 from 3

2nd Quarter - Bulls need to keep their foot down and keep up their early momentum. And they do just that as the Bulls lead by 11 after 6 minutes of 2nd. They finish the 2nd quarter still up pretty comfortably 58-48, winning the quarter 23-21

Bulls

  • Ayo 16 pts (maybe 18) 100% FGs

  • LaVine 12pts (maybe 10)

  • Vucevic 7pts 5rebs

  • 6/14 3s

OKC

  • SGA 12pts

  • Dort 8pts

  • 7/19 3s

2ND HALF

3rd Quarter - Bulls will hope for more of the same and see this out early. They go up by 26 after 5 minutes of the quarter and the highlight plays are back. The quarter finishes with a half court heave buzzer beater from Ayo Dosunmu. They finish the quarter with a 14 point lead of 92-78, winning the quarter again 34-30.

Bulls

  • Ayo 24pts

  • LaVine 18pts

OKC

  • SGA 24pts

  • Dort 10pts

4th Quarter - Bulls cannot let OKC back in this but that's exactly what happens when OKC starts playing great defense. They need a run that got them 28 up in the 3rd but OKC find a way to keep hitting 3s. In the process Bulls seem to implode and let the Thunder get to within 6 with 3 minutes left. A horrible 4th quarter from Bulls sees them only score 19 to the Thunder's 32 but with a clutch Javonte Green rebound they squeeze out with the win, 111-110. Phew.

POSTGAME STATS

Bulls

  • Vucevic 26pts

  • Ayo 24pts

  • Zach 23 pts

  • 15/39 3s

OKC

  • SGA 31pts

  • Dort 16pts

  • 16/45 3s

Final Takeaway

Bulls survived a shocking 4th quarter to claim the W. I'd imagine it gives Billy Donovan a lot to work on ahead of the next game. Another career game from Ayo Dosunmu certainly helped carry the Bulls forward and breaking records in the process before fouling out with 4 minutes left. The return of Zach LaVine and Javonte Green was a welcome boost for Bulls and you could tell from the minute the game started. The bench also had a much better performance in regards to scoring and assists. Nikola Vucevic continues his Jekyll and Hyde season having a solid performance tonight after a bad shooting performance against the Magic. Before the game started, OKC were the worst 3 point shooters in the league, but as usual a team seems to change that against the Bulls which is a worry on the defensive end. One worry will be another cold night from Coby White who for the 3rd game in a row struggles with his finish.

NEXT UP: Bulls go again Wednesday against the Raptors at the UC.
